Sweet Pea Thompson & Morgan Prize Strain Mixed
Number of seeds per packet: 25.
The best of the best, with exhilarating fragrance and colourful, fancy blooms. A traditional ‘Spencer’ type ideal for cutting, garden decoration or exhibiting.
Superb for arches, trellises and obelisks.
Fill a seed tray or 7.5cm pots with good, free-draining, damp, seed compost. Sowing in spring: Sow 1cm deep 7.5cm apart or 3 seeds per 7.5cm pot, place pots in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag and keep at around 20-25°C until germination (approx. 7-21 days). Don’t exclude light as this helps germination.
Alternatively sow outdoors, 2.5cm deep, in drills (channels) 7.5cm apart. Plant into their final flowering positions in spring once the ground has warmed, 23-30cm apart.
Pinch out the growing point once the second pair of leaves has opened.
Water freely in dry weather. Train the stems onto a support such as trellis. Cut flower stems frequently and deadhead faded blooms. This will encourage more blooms and extend the flowering period.
Caution: these seeds are harmful if eaten. Flowers: June, July, August. A hardy annual.
