Seeds per packet: 25

A mix of smaller flowered, heirloom grandiflora types, many dating back to the 16th century, in a wide range of scented colours. Adds a strong fragrance to your cutting garden. This is a hardy annual climber that’s superb for arches, trellises and obelisks. Sow October to January indoors or March to April outdoors. Prefers a well-drained soil in full sun. Flowers in summer.  Grows to an eventual height of 1.8 to 3 metres.

Soak seeds overnight in warm water before sowing 1cm deep, 3 seeds per 7.5cm pot, in free-draining, damp, seed compost.

Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and place in a position at 20-25°C until after germination, which takes 7-21 days. Do not exclude light.

Spring sowings can be sown outdoors, 2.5cm deep, in drills (channels) 7.5cm apart.

Over winter October sown plants in cooler conditions such as a cold frame before planting out in the spring, when the ground has warmed, 23-30cm apart.

Pinch out the growing point once the second pair of leaves has opened. Water freely in dry weather. Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage more blooms.

Caution: these seeds are harmful if eaten.
