Sister’s sunflowers secure first and second prize
Earlier this year we launched a sunflower growing competition and asked people to grow the ‘fattest sunflower face’ using special seeds bred to produce larger flower faces in aid of children’s charity bibic.
We had lots of fantastic entries to our sunflower competition and we decided to award seven-year-old Lacey-Lee and 15-year-old Lia-Maree first and second place in the Wales region.
Lacey-Lee has been awarded a £10 gift voucher and Lia-Maree received a £5 gift voucher as well as certificates to keep.
It’s brilliant that the girls got involved in the competition as it’s always good to see youngsters getting into gardening, we hope it will inspire others to do so in the future.
Proceeds from the sale of sunflower seeds will be donated to bibic, which helps children and young people aged from six months to 18-years-old with conditions affecting their development and learning abilities to achieve their potential for a happier and more fulfilled life.
Lacey-Lee said: “I am so happy to win the competition but would have been just as happy if Lia-Maree had won. I am going to buy more sunflower seeds and daffodil bulbs with my prize.”
