Peter’s predictions for gardening trends in 2015

Our Horticultural Expert, Peter, has given his predictions for gardening trends in 2015.

He said: “As Christmas and the New Year passes thoughts will be turning to gardening in the spring time. It can be difficult to predict the future of the gardening industry as it is so dependent on good weather, but I believe we will see a move away from pure annuals for summer colour to repeat flowering perennials.

“We could also see an increased use of raised beds, small veg trugs and pots for growing veg in. I also believe single colour and single species bedding planting schemes will be very popular.

“Another popular trend for 2015 will be the move to micro irrigation systems to save on water as well as a move to a higher quality of peat in composts.

“Helping the bird and insect population is becoming increasingly important and as more people become aware, I think we will see more shrubs being planted to attract different species to the garden. Bird and pet friendly slug pellets will also become more widely used.

“As the summer approaches and people start to think about using their outside space more, we’ll see a move to the use of better quality solar lighting, furniture and barbecues.”
