What’s new this month...
We’ve got two interesting/unusual plants that have just arrived on our virtual plant benches this month.
Abelia x grandiflora ‘Kaleidoscope’
A real crowd-pleaser, this fast-growing shrub has all year round interest with its wonderful ever-changing semi-evergreen foliage and its fragrant summer flowers.
A fairly recent introduction to the UK, it is a compact, low shrub with variegated, glossy leaves that change colour, from fresh green to stunning golden yellow in the spring through to brilliant orange and fiery red in the autumn.
It produces an explosion of colour as the temperature changes. It’s great for jazzing up any border or patio.
Sarcococca hookeriana var. ghorepani
The Sarcococca hookeriana is a tricky plant to get hold of but we are one of the only places in the UK with it in stock. In the winter months a wonderful waft of fragrance from the garden can revive you if you’re suffering from the seasonal blues. This hardy, evergreen shrub produces a heady fragrance.
It has slim glossy green leaves and offers up unusual but attractive clusters of perfumed, pink-flushed, white flowers in early winter and spring. These can be used in the home as cut flowers. They are followed by black berries providing interest into the spring.
