Rooftop gardens at Battersea Power Station

Posted on June 13, 2014 by Potter & Rest

One of the UK’s most famous power stations has commissioned the building of roof gardens as part of a regeneration project.

The gardens, which will be designed by Andy Sturgeon, will take horticultural inspiration from fire, air and water, the three elements essential to the process of power generation.

The Switch House East garden will adopt the ‘fire’ element and will have wide lawns and mounded planting, as well as belvederes so local residents can enjoy the views over the city.

The Switch House West garden will include meandering river-like paths as part of the ‘water’ element and between the four famous chimneys, Boiler House Square will become the ‘air’ garden and will focus on airy planting with shallow reflecting pools under a glass atrium.
