Jobs to do in the garden in April – Prune

Posted on April 25, 2014 by Potter & Rest
It’s a good idea to get all of your pruning done this week. You can start with gooseberries, redcurrants and white currants if they haven’t already been clipped during the winter.

You should remove branches growing from the root of rose bushes and dead head large bulbs such as tulips, narcissus and hyacinths. Jasmine should be pruned now too.

Hardy fuchsias can now be trimmed down to where new growth is showing. Cut buddleias, lavatera and other late summer flowering shrubs down to about two feet. Clip lavenders, spiraeas and potentillas lightly with the shears to take off dead flowers and to shape. It’s also a good idea to prune Perennial shrubs and ornamental trees too.
