Are you getting your seven a day?

Posted on April 02, 2014 by Potter & Rest

The University College London’s top researchers have recently claimed that eating seven or more portions of fruit a day can significantly reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease compared with the government’s recommended five.

The eating habits of more than 65,000 people in England were studied between 2001 and 2013 and they found that the more fruit and vegetables they ate, the less likely they were to die at a given age. The research also showed that vegetables and salads have significantly higher health benefits than fruit.

The study is one of the first to identify the types of fruit and vegetable with the most benefit, the researchers claim.

Only one person in four in the UK eats the British government’s FONT recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. A good and cheap way to ensure you’re getting everything you need is to grow vegetables yourself and this can be done even if you don’t have a big garden.

Eating seven a day could be even more rewarding and fun if you grow your own (link to GYO section) seven. Check out some of our handy Grow Your Own kits and herb pots to help you on your way.
